Hello Lynhaven Families!

I was born and raised in Chico, California. I moved to San Jose for college to pursue my career in education at San Jose State. I found my passion in education while working at a preschool in undergrad where I worked for 4 years. My favorite part about my position at Lynhaven is learning about my students interests and bringing those interests into the classroom. In my free time I love to travel, hike, cook, workout and spend quality time with my friends and family. A fun fact about me is I have 31 house plants and counting.

Hello Lynhaven Families!

I was born in San Jose and raised throughout the bay, from Mountain View, Pleasanton, San Mateo & Santa Clara. In addition to living in Idaho for 2 years. Growing up I always wanted to be teacher & would force my younger siblings to be my students. When I did attend college I majored in Early Childhood Development, however life took me in different path and through many adventures it finally led me to be in the education field. One of my favorite parts of my position at Lynhaven is the ability to work collaboratively with administration. It’s not everyday one finds leaders that work beside you instead of above you. During my free time I like to spend time with my daughter and friends, whether it’s dinners or movie nights. A fun fact about me is that I love diversity. Anything that involves psychology or self growth.

In June 2022 we submitted a self-study to AVID. We examined our school's performance in four domains

--AVID Schoolwide Instruction

  • WICOR® (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading)

--AVID Schoolwide Systems

  • Management of AVID Elementary Implementation
  • Access to Rigor and Student Support
  • Assessment of Student Progress
  • Professional Learning

--AVID Schoolwide Leadership

  • College Readiness Mission and Vision
  • Representative Governance
  • Pathway to College Readiness

--AVID Schoolwide Culture

  • Rigor
  • Community Activities and College Awareness
  • College-Going Environment

Our self-study was evaluated by AVID and Lynhaven was awarded the status of "AVID Certified Site."  This special recognition is possible becuase of the hard work of our students, teachers, and staff and the strong partnerships between home and school.

We are now working towards the next level of recogntion: AVID Showcase School!

While we missed having our students at school, we were fortunate to come together as a whole district staff on October 10th.

Our keynote speaker Dr. John Hodge emphasized the difference 1 caring adult can make in a student's life. He is also an AVID teacher so his presentation was especially powerful for the Lynhaven staff, since we are an AVID Elementary School.

Today, October 5th, was the first time that the 5210 Youth nutrition program was on-site during lunchtime to provide Tasty Tastings for the 2022-2023 school year! At each Tasty Tasting, students have the opportunity to sample a fruit or vegetable and vote if they"liked it" "loved it" or "not today." The 5210 program has bins for students to place their vote and additional educational handouts on the fruit or vegetable.

Want to learn more about the 5210 programs? Check out their flyer or website. 5210 Programs are made possible through grant funding and partnerships with Palo Alto Medical Foundation and El Camino Hospital.

We are observing International Walk to School Day this year on Wednesday, October 5th.

This event promotes awareness of the many benefits of walking to school such as improved health, less pollution and reduced traffic congestion. Walking to school is also a great way to energize the brain for the school day. We ask our parents and guardians driving on this day to use extra caution as we may have more families than usual walking or riding to school.

We appreciate the Walk-n-Roll program of the City of San Jose for partnering with us for the 2022-2023 school year and helping us to promote fitness and safety in our community.

We ask that each parent/guardian committs to the safety of their student(s) and all students during drop off and pick up by:

*following the traffic pattens in the parking lots. DO NOT drop students off  or pick them up where they would be walking or running through cars to reach you.

*not stopping in the RED ZONES around the school. This poses a danger to all students trying to cross the streets, but also the cars and buses pulling out into traffic.

*It is against the school safety zone to make a U-Turn in the middle of the street. This causes back ups on the streets in both directions.

*There is no LEFT TURN out of the front parking lot between 7:30 and 3:30 to allow for traffic to flow smoothly to the right and down Cypress Ave.

*Park in the neighborhood respectfully and walk to school.

*Cross only in cross walks.

*Finally, our neighbor's driveways cannot be blocked or their garbage cans moved on trash collection days.

Thank you for for doing your part to ensure that all students and families at Lynhaven are safe everyday!
