Congratulations to our Fifth Graders who are headed off to Monroe, Campbell, and Rolling Hills middle schools next year! They have been amazing role models for behavior and following our ABC's. Their ceremony will take place at 10:00 in the cafeteria this year, followed immediately by a potluck "luau" themed party. Since it will be in the cafeteria, and as to not block anyone's view during the ceremony, no balloons will be allowed in the cafeteria during the ceremony. You can drop them off in the office and give them to your student during the potluck. Siblings that attend Lynhaven may come to the ceremony, but we ask that they return to their class at the end so that the 5th graders can enjoy their party/potluck. All students need to be checked out after the potluck if they will be leaving campus before 1:15 dismissal. Please contact Ms. Pressley or Ms. A for more info and if you can help out with decorating, food donations, or set up/clean up.

Congratulations are in order for some special employees on our campus!

Congratulations to our Teacher of the Year: Miss Patenaude! Miss Patenaude has been in CUSD for 6 years. She began her career at Blackford Elementary teaching the adult ESL classes. Then she found her home at Lynhaven in 2nd grade where she has been for the last 5 years! Ms. Patenaude has a love for teaching that is evident in everything that she does. Her classroom is a busy place where students are challened to think critically, ask questions and still manage to have fun! We are thankful for all she does for our students and staff.

Congratualations to our Volunteer of the Year: Mrs. Kitty Costello! Mrs. Costello has been at Lynhaven for 3 years. Her daughter is in 2nd grade and when she's not volunteering in there, she's attending every PTA meeting, SSC and ELAC as a parent representative. She is currently in her second year as our PTA treasurer and she works hard along with our other PTA members, to bring events like the Walk-A-Thon, Pumpkin Walk, and Silent Auction to our school. Thank you for all you do Kitty!

Miss Patenaude and Mrs. Costello will be recognized along with our Classified employees of the year, Mrs. Magdaleno Cornejo, our secretary, and Mrs. Janet Buseman, our Educational Associate at our District Employee Recognition event on Thursday, May 19th, at 6:00 at Castlemont Elementary in the Multipurpose Room. At a March 17 Study Session, the Campbell Union School District Governing Board began discussions about proposed changes at three of its schools: Rosemary Elementary School, Campbell Middle School, and Village School, the district’s a parent participation school.

Main components of the proposal include:

  1. Rosemary Elementary School: add a fifth grade class to the preschool-through-grade-four school in August 2016 with a possibility of expanding to a Preschool through 8th grade site in the future.
  2. Campbell Middle School: Expand the grade 5-8 middle school to Preschool through 8th grade, possibly in the 2017/18 school year. (This proposal could include merging Village School and Campbell Middle School, but is not dependent upon it.)
  3. Village School: If the school merges with Campbell Middle, the current Village School campus would convert to a preschool site. If the two schools do not merge, Village School will remain as is and planning for converting Campbell Middle School to a preschool-through-eighth-grade campus would continue.

One of the proposed changes was approved on March 31st: Rosemary School will have a 5th grade starting in the new school year. Discussions about the rest of the proposed changes will continue throughout the year.

“This proposal is a starting point. We are at the very beginning of the conversation,” said District Superintendent Eric Andrew. “Having ample opportunity for discussion is an integral part of the process.”

Andrew said the proposal stems from the District’s Strategic Planning, input from stakeholders, and the goal of ensuring that every school in the Campbell Union School District is a School of Choice.

“We want each school to be as desirable as the next, so parents are confident that their children are receiving a top quality education in a top quality educational setting no matter which is their neighborhood school, ” he said.

The Superintendent and Board have had multiple meetings with staff, families and other community stakeholders since mid-March, and more are expected.

“We will discuss the District Reorganization proposal at each board meeting until we finalize the plan and identify methods to monitor the implementation of the plan,” Andrew said.

“Change can be uncomfortable, he added, “but it also can bring about wonderful outcomes for our students.”
