Updated Sun, Oct 15th

This month, your child's teacher will want to schedule a Parent-Teacher conference with you. Before that happens, you can sharpen your skills at the October 14th Parent University. Hear from other parents who are wondering the same type of things you are: how to handle peer relationships? What is equity? Is it too early to learn about college?

Don't miss this free opportunity to give yourself and your child an educational edge. Parent University is Saturday, October 14th at Monroe Middle School from 8:00-12:00.  Free childcare. Sign up today! For more information about our District's Parent University, click below:

Hope to see you there!

REMINDER! In an effort to go green and save paper, today is the last time the Lynx Letter will be sent home as a hard copy. We highly encourage familes to sign up for our e-news letter that will be delivered directly to your email inbox every Thursday morning. I will be updating the website weekly or daily, as necessary, so feel free to check it for new information. If you prefer a hard copy, we will have a very small number available in the office for you to pick up every other week. Thank you for helping us save paper!

We invite you to join us as we walk to school on Wednesday, 10/4. Every student that walks to school will receive a snack, a sticker that says I WALKED TO SCHOOL, and a color changing pencil. Walking to school not only supports a healthy lifestyle, but allows for opportunity to have a conversation with your child, and alleviates the congestion caused by parking and driving to school. Even if you park further away than normal and walk, you will still be supporting our International Walk to School Day! We hope this is not the only day you'll join us in promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Join the Campbell Union School District community in celebrating 12 talented student authors at the District’s 15th Annual Rising Young Authors awards, October 18, 2017, at 7 p.m., at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore on Stevens Creek Blvd., in San Jose.

The Rising Young Authors are a select group of students whose short stories, essays, research papers, and poems were among hundreds entered in the District’s annual Writing Faire last May. After the Writing Faire, judges review eligible entries to select one Author of the Year per school to receive the Rising Young Author award in the fall.

The student authors will speak to the audience about their award-winning books and, later, they will autograph copies for fans who bring copies with them to the event.

As a parent of two children at Lynhaven, I have a lot to keep track of. I like our three new online apps for different reasons. Each one is a MUST HAVE for every busy parent who wants to keep up with what's happening at school!

1. REMIND--this is great for last-minute reminders from our awesome principal Ms. Rowan and my daughter's teacher too. They can text back personally to me and I can ask any questions I have. LOVE this. It keeps me in the loop and I know I won't suffer from missing out on spirit day reminders, special event reminders, or even classroom events!

Join here:

2. MY SCHOOL ANYWHERE--this is a fantastic on line school directory of families, faculty, and has a link to our school google calendar right on my phone. Here's where I sign up for school events like the pumpkin walk, the holiday fair and the walk a thon, and I love signing up online to bring a treat to the teachers and see when teacher and office staff birthdays are! This is the app that really brings our community together.

Join here:

3. SEESAW-- I LOVE getting a picture text from our teacher of some work my daughter has done in class. She suffers from the classic "I don't know" syndrome...where "I DUNNO" is her answer to any question I ask her, especially, "What did you do in school today?"--so this lets me see what's going on and feel a part of her day! Please ask your teacher for details on how to join SEESAW!

I LOVE that Lynhaven is up to date with the latest technology! As a Silicon Valley School, we are RIGHT ON TREND!! GO LYNX!!!

Each month we'll be putting articles in the newsletter about helpful strategies to support students at home and school. This month is the Conversations about School!

After School Questions!

"What did you do at school today? Nothing. If this is the question you're asking, try changing it up with your children. Try instead:

What was the coolest thing that happened today? What was not so cool?

What's something that made you laugh?

How did you show your ABC's today or were kind and caring? Who was someone that was kind or caring to you?

I can't wait to see what you did today or what your homework is!

These conversation starters will help you stay involved in school and get a better sense of your child's day!

It was so good to see the packed cafeteria at our Back To School Night last week! Thank you for taking the time to come out and hear the wonderful things we're doing at Lynhaven. It's important that we have the partnership between home and school to best support all students. We, as well as your teachers, are here to support you so don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
