You might be wondering, "what is number sense?" It is someone's ability to understand, connect, and relate numbers. Learning experiences that help build number sense set our students up for success as they progress through the grades and see more complex math tasks. At Lynhaven, we begin working on number sense in grade TK and students in all classrooms, including our Special Education classrooms, work on their number sense.

Interested in learning more about number sense? Check out this Scholastic Parent article Demystifying Math: What is Number Sense?

Below are some pictures of 1st graders building math sense through a collaborative game and getting support from our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Charmaine Ramirez. Lynhaven is fortunate to have a Math Specialist, Mrs. Tyler Derler, who also supports all classrooms with strategies for engaging and high quality math instruction.

May 20th is the last time that the 5210 Youth nutrition program will be on-site during lunchtime to provide Tasty Tastings for the 2021-2022 school year! At each Tasty Tasting, students have the opportunity to sample a fruit or vegetable and vote if they"liked it" "loved it" or "not today." The 5210 program has bins for students to place their vote and additional educational handouts on the fruit or vegetable.

We have enjoyed our Tasty Tastings this Spring and look forward to 5210 returning to Lynhaven next school year!

Want to learn more about the 5210 programs? Check out their flyer or website. 5210 Programs are made possible through grant funding and partnerships with Palo Alto Medical Foundation and El Camino Hospital.

We appreciate everyone who was able to join us for our Special Olympics Event earlier this month. It was great to see our student athletes shine, cheered on by their families and Lynhaven students from across our grades.

Big thank you to PTA. They provided decorations and  partnered with Trader Joe's to provide snacks for our students. Check Seesaw for a picture of the Trader Joe's team who made that possible.
