The Walk n' Roll program is running a "Walk n' Roll Week" during the 4th week of each month through May.  Students are encouraged to walk, roll, or get some indoor exercise for at least 15 minutes each day and then submit their completed activities on the January Walk n' Roll Week form. If a student has extra energy and participates in more than one activity during the day, they can check off multiple activities. Students may submit the form at the end of the week or separate forms for each day. Here is the form. (Click on the word form)

They are also offering a quick Bike Safety tip each month. Here is more information on that:

Safety Spotlight: February (entries due by March 5)

Each month, we will offer an activity that will focus on a safety skill. For February, we are featuring the "ABC Quick Check" video, which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5pD84p78O8

Students are encouraged to watch the video (or read the summary sheet), finish the activity sheet and email it to WalknRoll [at] sanjoseca.gov by March 5. The sheets are attached in English and Spanish.  We need:

  • Scanned copy or a photo of the activity sheet
  • Student's name and grade
  • Teacher
  • School

Schools with at least 30% of students participating will be awarded a "Golden Shoe" certificate. Student responses about their favorite place to walk may be featured in upcoming Walk n' Roll newsletters, provided they have permission from the student's parents.

Mr. Shandonay, otherwise known as Mr. Shaun to many of the students, is a staple on our campus! He is our school academic counselor and splits his time between our school and Castlemont school. Shaun runs groups specifically for boys, girls, and children struggling with school issues. He can also be found on the playground doing yard duty at recess, leading games of soccer on the grass, or doing his favorite event which is organizing a springtime after school football camp through our Expanded Learning Department. One of Shaun's hidden talents, is that he plays the guitar beautifully! We appreciate everything he does for our students and we're so thankful he's at Lynhaven!

Please see below for his newsletter:

Hello, my name is Mr. Shandonay and I am the School Counselor at Lynhaven Elementary.  I am happy to introduce my new monthly newsletter. It will be filled with fun activities for the students, helpful tips on how to cope with life’s challenges, inspiring quotes and much more. It also provides my contact information if you ever need to reach me. Until then, be safe, and take care!
