Please see the message below from our PTA President Mary Bormann.

Hello Lynhaven Families!

Our most important fundraising campaign of the year starts today and your help is essential! The funds raised the year will help our school pay for the following items based on needs:

1. Helping teachers purchase online apps and online susbcriptions such as to RAZKIDS or Freckle. Most teachers are purchasing lights and microphones to help improve their Zoom meetings. Headphones are also needed for students.

2. When we move into Phase 2 and beyond for distance learning, we will need colored wristbands and matching colored recess equipment for students to play with to keep the cohorts of students separate.

3. A way to distribute teacher materials to their students is through clear bins that we would purchase for every student. That would be about 500 bins.

We are asking you to reach out to your friends and family to encourage them to shop for products in our fundraising catalog online. The proceeds of every purchase will make a BIG difference for us! There are over 1500 items available in the catalog!

How to get started???

--Register your participant online by going to charlestonwrapstore.com and enter the organization ID---11178

--Invite friends and family to shop and support through social media and texting the link to them.

--If you choose to, you can donate funds directly online. Just go to www.lynhavenelempta.membershiptoolkit.com

--Please see the link below for more information.

Thank you for supporting our school!

Hello Lynhaven Families,

I hope you all stayed healthy and safe during your summer break.  All of us are busily preparing for your virtual arrival on the first day of school, Monday, August 24th.  Whether you are participating in the Four-Phased or Year-long Distance Learning option, we will all begin this year in virtual classrooms.  Our teaching staff officially started their year this week and have been diligently preparing for virtual teaching with our Lynx again! Our campus is buzzing with excitement as we begin this new journey together!

As we return to school with distance learning, you will notice that your child will be involved in more synchronous (live) lessons.  There will be asynchronous (recorded) lessons that your child will also be responsible for watching. Please know the teachers are planning engaging activites and your child will not be in front of a screen all day. They will have PE activites along with some mindfullness activites too to get them up and moving! You can expect to hear more about your daily schedule from your teacher on the first day of school.

The school day will start at 8:30 and end at 2:15, and 1:15 on Wednesdays for all students in TK-5th grade. Our Kindergarten students will be on a modified schedule for the first 3 days of school due to 1:1 assessments and your teachers will explain this more at Curriculum pick up tomorrow.  Attendance will be taken daily and participation in the distance learning classroom is an expectation.  Students will be receiving report cards at the end of the trimester as with regular school.

Technology will be handed out tomorrow, 8/21, to our Phase-In students. Please see previous article CURRICULUM PICK UP to see your grade level times and locations on campus.  All incoming kindergarteners, new students, and those with more than one CUSD student in their household will receive a chromebook. It will be helpful to bring a backpack to pick up your technology and your curriculum. This will help to get students into a back to school mindset and also to keep your technology safe. Here is a quick guide regarding technology in our district:

**Students in the YEAR LONG DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAM will be contacted by your administrator with details on your curriculum and chromebook pick-up day and time.

We highly encourage students to pick up a chromebook even if they have a device such as an iPad, tablet, or laptop, at home. This allows for easier troubleshooting for the teachers in the event that a student has trouble signing in to their classroom or logging onto a certain program. Please see below for FAQ's about Chromebooks:

  • Do I need to pick up a new chromebook if I previously obtained a CUSD chromebook for my student(s):  No, your student may utilize the same chromebook they have been using previously, no need to switch/trade out.
  • I already have a chromebook but don't have a QR code, can I find it online?  Not at this time. CUSD is currently working on parent access to QR codes so that lost/misplaced codes can be downloaded/re-printed at home. However at this time, the QR code hard-copy provided by the school is your best access or students may type in their passwords.
  • My child uses their password, will this still work?  Yes, your student(s) may still type in their password for the same access.
  • What if my student(s) can't remember their password? Teachers will have password access, password information will also be available to parents under the powerschool parent portal (not yet open to parents).
  • My student(s) have been sharing a Chromebook, may each student get their own? Yes, please plan to pick up (1) chromebook for each Lynhaven student as times may overlap for class meetings, synchronous instruction, etc.
  • We already have a chromebook from CUSD that is not working properly, can we exchange it? Yes, if your CUSD issued chromebook is having technical malfunctions, please tape a note with student name and grade along with what problems you are experiencing (battery, camera, etc.) and return the chromebook and charging cord, we will exchange it for you.
  • Does the chromebook have the applications and programs loaded on it that my child will be using? Yes, all the chromebooks are pre-loaded with the necessary applications and programs.
  • Will my student(s) need the chromebook on the first day of school, August 24th? Yes, students will need to be able to meet with their teacher and classmates on August 24th via zoom which is available on every chromebook.
  • My child does not have any passwords, how will they log in?  Your child may use the QR code provided to sign in to all applications and programs.
  • My child is participating in Year Long distance learning, should they still obtain a chromebook from Lynhaven?  Yes, your student will need a chromebook and may pick it up from Lynhaven on the date designated by the Distance Learning administrators.
  • What do I do if my child is experiencing technical issues with their chromebook? Contact the teacher, if they are not able to resolve the problem, the CUSD tech support will be notified.

This year is going to be an exciting one as we face new changes. We can't wait  to see our students even if it's from behind a mask! If you didn't get a chance to listen to the school messenger we sent last night, here is some important information. As the teachers return next Monday, the 17th, they will hit the ground running with planning for their students and creating class lists.

Please read carefully:

If your child is enrolled in the PHASE-1 DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAM, the dates for distribution of curriculum and chromebooks and posting class lists is still being finalized. We will post that date on our website tomorrow, Friday, 8/14.

If your child is in the the FULL YEAR DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAM, you will be contacted by the administrators of that program  next week as to when and where you can pick up your child's curriculum and chromebook, and find out who their teacher is.

We highly encourage students to pick up a chromebook even if they have a device such as an iPad, tablet, or laptop, at home. This allows for easier troubleshooting for the teachers in the event that a student has trouble signing in to their classroom or logging onto a certain program.

Hello Lynhaven Families! Our School Site Council (SSC) has three openings to be filled by our parents who have "promoted" onto middle school!  The Council is one of the most important decision-making groups at our school and is composed of five parent/community members and five representatives from the school’s staff.

The Council reviews the school plan and budget annually, makes modifications as necessary, and assists in the evaluation of the school’s programs. Members are elected by the groups that they represent. Parent and community representatives and alternates are elected for a two-year term.  If you are interested, please email me a short description (see example below) on why you'd like to be on the council and I will add your name to the ballot.

SAMPLE:

**______Hi! My name is XXXXXXXXX I have two children at Lynhaven (in kinder and 5th Grade). I would like to be on the School Site Council because I feel it is a very important job that helps the school and the student body on a short term and long-term basis.  I feel that I can be an asset because I am often on campus serving our community as part of the PTA.  I know many people in our community and I appreciate this opportunity to contribute further to ensure every student has their needs met.**

Please consider becoming a candidate for School Site Council. All interested parents should contact our administrative assistant, Nicole Valencia, nvalencia [at] campbellusd.org for myself at browan [at] campbellusd.org for more information.

Last week, our Superintendent, Dr. Shelly Viramontez, held a virtual meeting to describe the district's plan for the 2020-2021 school year. If you were unable to attend, you can view the recording here:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkiOJ4OLKpC-rrOikZqrrug
Two instructional programs are available for the 2020-2021 school year. One is the regular 4-Phase Program which begins with all students in Distance Learning until we are cleared to move to the next phase. This is described in the presentation.  All students who did not previously opt out of that program are enrolled in it.
The other option is the Year-Long Distance Learning program in which students will not return to school during this school year, even if students in the phase-in program are able to come back safely. If you wanted this program, you will remain on the list and will be contacted by your Distance Learning Administrator and the district teacher who will be teaching your child. This will not necessarily be a Lynhaven teacher.
The deadline to sign up for the Year-Long Distance learning program was this past Monday, August 3rd at 4:00 p.m. Applications for that program are no longer being taken.
*Important, If you signed up for year-long distance learning  program in error and you want to have your child come back to school this year when it is safe, you will have until Thursday, August 6th by 4:00 to contact the Campbell Union School District enrollment department to place your child on the phase-in program. This will ensure that they are able to come back to school in stages this year when it is determined to be safe. Please call the district office if you signed up for this program in error.  You can call the school office if you have any questions at (408) 556-0368. Thank you!

WOW! We made it to our last day of school! What a whirlwind the last 60 days has been! The end of our 2019-2020 school year will be remembered as a very challenging time in an otherwise awesome school year! We know it was tough for everyone, and we're so happy that we were resilient and pushed through until the end. Hopefully, we've been through the toughest part and have come out better. We all did our best to make it work for everyone!

Mrs. Ajlouni and I want to take a moment to say goodbye for the summer. We wish all of you wonderful days ahead with your family and friends.  We can't get our usual last day of school hugs and high fives, but we can hold onto the fun memories we've made this year prior to the school closures.

Please take some time to enjoy your family and rest up for the fall!

Happy Summer!

With love,

Ms. Rowan and Ms. Ajlouni
