Students can wear their costumes and play games! It's a fun afternoon and our PTA parents do a lot of work to get it all set and many volunteers are needed! Our annual Halloween Parade will take place on Tuesday, 10/31 from 8:30-9:00am on our playground. The classes will join us on the playground and each class will circle one time in grade level order. We ask that familes stand behind the cones and the classes will be sitting in front of them. As a reminder, these items are prohibited:

  • Weapons of any kind
  • Clown costumes for students and adults
  • Full face masks
  • Costumes that contain excessive blood or promote violence

All visitors will need to sign-in in the front of the school where we will have tables out with stickers and sign in sheets. While families are welcome to attend, only Lynhaven students will walk in the parade. Please keep siblings and toddlers with adults. Students will change out of their costumes after the parade. Please sned a change of clothes or wear them under your costume. We hope you can join us!

Are you interested in helping students try new foods? Each month, our Program Specialist Lisa Chin, will be here on campus with samples of food for the students to try. She is looking for volunteers to help her.  Here are the dates for the tastings at Lynhaven:

Friday Oct 13- Asian Pears

Friday Dec 15- Persimmons

Friday Jan 12- Grapefruit

Friday Feb 16- Beets

Friday March 16-Snap Peas

Friday May 18- Blackberries

Each parent would only have to volunteer once, we just need someone committed to save the date. Lunch is 11:31am-12:50pm and the parent would need to prep the produce (wash, place into sample cups) about 30 minutes prior to the lunch period.

It would be helpful to have the parent volunteer shadow Lisa in October (or a later tasting date) to see how it’s done. The shadowing isn’t necessary, but helpful if they have any questions. Otherwise she can just talk about it in person or over the phone before the tasting. If you are interested, please contact Lisa!

This month, your child's teacher will want to schedule a Parent-Teacher conference with you. Before that happens, you can sharpen your skills at the October 14th Parent University. Hear from other parents who are wondering the same type of things you are: how to handle peer relationships? What is equity? Is it too early to learn about college?

Don't miss this free opportunity to give yourself and your child an educational edge. Parent University is Saturday, October 14th at Monroe Middle School from 8:00-12:00.  Free childcare. Sign up today! For more information about our District's Parent University, click below:

REMINDER! In an effort to go green and save paper, today is the last time the Lynx Letter will be sent home as a hard copy. We highly encourage familes to sign up for our e-news letter that will be delivered directly to your email inbox every Thursday morning. I will be updating the website weekly or daily, as necessary, so feel free to check it for new information. If you prefer a hard copy, we will have a very small number available in the office for you to pick up every other week. Thank you for helping us save paper!

We hope you have already schedueld your parent conference with your teacher for the week of October 30-November 3. There was a misprint on the PTA calendar that was sent home regarding dismissal times.

DISMISSAL THIS WEEK WILL BE:

12:10 FOR GRADES TK-2 AND 12:15 FOR GRADES 3-5.

Conferences are a very important time to sit with your teacher and discuss your child's successes and challenges. If you haven't already, please sign up for a time to meet. Translators are available for any family who needs it.

We invite you to join us as we walk to school on Wednesday, 10/4. Every student that walks to school will receive a snack, a sticker that says I WALKED TO SCHOOL, and a color changing pencil. Walking to school not only supports a healthy lifestyle, but allows for opportunity to have a conversation with your child, and alleviates the congestion caused by parking and driving to school. Even if you park further away than normal and walk, you will still be supporting our International Walk to School Day! We hope this is not the only day you'll join us in promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Join the Campbell Union School District community in celebrating 12 talented student authors at the District’s 15th Annual Rising Young Authors awards, October 18, 2017, at 7 p.m., at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore on Stevens Creek Blvd., in San Jose.

The Rising Young Authors are a select group of students whose short stories, essays, research papers, and poems were among hundreds entered in the District’s annual Writing Faire last May. After the Writing Faire, judges review eligible entries to select one Author of the Year per school to receive the Rising Young Author award in the fall.

The student authors will speak to the audience about their award-winning books and, later, they will autograph copies for fans who bring copies with them to the event.
