Lynhaven Elementary School

School News

Updated Wed, Nov 22nd

Dear Lynhaven Families,

While it easy to be caught up in the rush of morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up, we ask that you always prioritize safety. Drivers need to follow all the rules of the road, including the posted School Zone speed limit of 25 mph.

Just as you want drivers to be safe near your homes, our Lynhaven neighbors ask that all of our drivers are safe near their homes.

Every instructional minute does count. No instructional minutes count more than each of us doing our part to keep the community safe.

Want to report unsafe driving or traffic violations on the city streets near school? Please report them to the City of San Jose at (408) 277-8900. Want to request a speed monitor from the City of San Jose? Please contact them at (408) 535-3850

In partnership,

Ms. Callaway-Wilson,

Principal

World Kindess Week is a great opportunity to share how we embedd kindess into the school day, every day, at Lynhaven.

Our Kindergarteners are the first learn about being a Bucket Filler. Want to learn more? Check out author Carol McCloud's website.

Our first graders practice kindness in their classrooms with whole body listening.

Our upper grades see kind messages like these in their classrooms, which helps them be successful and caring student leaders, like our Jr. Coaches (in purple) below. They help during recess and assemblies with reminders of our ABCs and respectful, kind communication.

And, our schoolwide social-emotional learning curriculum, PurposeFull People by Character Strong, helps students TK-5 build important skills. Lynhaven classrooms use PurposeFull people lessons all year long.

Attendance

Please see below for FAQ and information.

I dropped off my child at school. Why are they marked absent? Students are expected to be in their classroom seats by 8:05am. If your student arrived after the late bell it is best to send them to the office for a late pass to avoid confusion.

I called to report the absence already, why am I receiving a notification they are absent?Attendance is not cleared immediately after notifying. As morning tardies, calls, voicemails and emails are handled in the order received it may take about 24 hours for a reported absence to be cleared, so we gratefully thank you for your patience.

Excused Absences
Once a student reaches 10 days of excused absences, we require that all subsequent absences be verified by a physician, school nurse, or other school personnel. (California Education Code 46011). Verification of absences must be provided within 20 days of the absence.

Doctors Note
Doctors or dentist notes/letters can be submitted in person to Andrea or via email to lynhaven_attendance [at] campbellusd.org

For all doctor or dentist appointments a note is required to excuse the absence.

**Failure to notify absences are automatically counted as unexcused.

Parent-teacher conferences are a vital part of a child’s education, especially at the elementary level. These conferences provide an opportunity for parents and guardians to connect with the teacher and discuss the child’s academic progress, strengths and weaknesses, social development, overall performance, and plan ways to support the student's academic success.

Whether these meetings involve student participation or not, data has shown that parent and guardian involvement in a child’s education can lead to better academic outcomes, improved attendance, and higher graduation rates.
