Membership Toolkit is the easiest way for us to keep in touch with families about upcoming events and other school information; The contact information you provide is for our school-related purposes only and is never shared. If you joined the PTA this year, THANK YOU so much for your support - a yearbook was included in your membership dues, so your child will be receiving a book in their classroom. The PTA could not have continued to support the school through our pandemic without meeting a minimum membership, so we really couldn't have done it without you!

Thank you to our teachers and staff for everything they did to keep us safe and happy this year! We are so lucky! Happy Summer!

We may not be able to go to Disneyland this Friday, but we will show our spirit with our favorite Disney clothes. If you'd like to participate, you can dress up in your favorite Disney t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, masks, and of course Disney EARS! Please keep any costume type dresses or other costumes at home as they are only allowed for our Halloween parade.

Also, there is no school on Monday, May 31st in honor of Memorial Day. Let's kick off our 3-day weekend with some fun. Our last spirit day was great so let's do it again!

After being at Lynhaven for almost 8 years, our wonderful Ms. Ajlouni will be leaving the position as our Assistant Principal to become the Principal at Blackford Elementary in the fall! We are so proud of her and can't put into words how much we will miss her smiling face on our campus everyday.

Ms. Ajlouni started at Lynhaven 8 years ago as our Equity Coach and her main role was to support our teachers and help with staff development. I realized very quickly after working with her that I had found my partner to lead this school with as our Assistant Principal. The next year she took on that role and we've been an amazing team ever since.

Anne with boy

Ms. Ajlouni leads with her heart and makes sure that every child knows that they are cared for and appreciated daily. She is responsible for  bringing our yearly Pinwheels for Peace program to our school along with initiating our Valentines for our Belmont Village Seniors, and Jump Rope for Heart. She is a strong advocate for our district initiatives like Profile of a Graduate and also our work we've done to become an AVID elementary and ensure our students are prepared for their college or career goals.

While I am very sad to see my partner of 8 years go, it makes me happy knowing that she will be able to spread her love for children and passion for equity and meeting the needs of all of our students, with another school. They are lucky to have Anne who will surely follow along in the footsteps of their previous amazing and caring administrators, Corrine Frese and Jen Jasper.

We wish her all the best and know that this is not a goodbye for Lynhaven, but a "see you around". She is once a Lynx, always a Lynx! WE LOVE YOU MS. AJLOUNI!

As the weather is turning warmer, students are dressing to stay cool. While we want that, we also need to make sure that they are wearing appropriate clothing. With this school year having a focus on COVID and safety, our normal Parent Handbook that goes home every year, wasn't sent out in the fall, rather we created a new one to address the safety of returning to school with the COVID concerns IF we did in fact return.

Now that we've been back, we have seen multiple students wearing inappropriate clothing. In this instance, we call home for a different piece of clothing, or shoes, so that the learning is not interrupted. Here are some reminders of clothing that is not to be worn at school:

Appropriate Attire The home is the most encouraging environment for setting appropriate appearance standards. While we recognize the importance of individual expression, there clearly are certain styles that are not conducive to an educational environment. Students are expected to comply with the following:

♦ A student’s hairstyle, clothing, and jewelry, should not distract others from learning.

♦ Makeup is not allowed at school, unless you are in a performance.

♦ Clothing with printed vulgarities and/or drug and alcohol-related themes are not acceptable.

♦ Ripped shirts, jeans, or shorts are not allowed

♦ Skin-tight or excessively baggy apparel, shorts shorter than fingertips when standing, bare midriffs, mini-skirts, and loose-fitting tank tops are not appropriate.

♦ Students must wear shoes at all times. Students’ sandals must have closed toes and back straps. Flip-flop sandals are not allowed.

♦ Although hats may be worn outdoors, students may not wear hats or sunglasses in any classroom or building on campus. (Governing Board Administration Regulation 5132)

Gang Related Apparel

Lynhaven School prohibits students from wearing gang-related apparel. Gang-related apparel is defined as clothing worn for the purpose of intimidation and/or exhibiting affiliation with gangs:

▪ Clothing or shoes with insignias, symbols, and/or numeric references to gangs

▪ Clothing or shoes with violence or violence related themes

▪ Clothing or shoes with printed logos depicting gang-related behavior

▪ Clothing with weapons or weapon-related themes

▪ Clothing such as jumpsuits, overcoats, shoes or other seasonal items worn for the purpose of intimidation and/or exhibiting affiliation with gangs

▪ Clothing all in one color worn for the purpose of intimidation and/or exhibiting affiliation with gangs

▪ Other gang regalia known by school officials and/or local law enforcement to be associated with gangs.

Thank you for your support and understanding in our efforts to keep children safe at school.

I want to invite you to a virtual presentation on Internet Safety and Cyberbullying facilitated by the San Jose Police Department youth outreach this Thursday, 5/20 from 6:00-7:30. We have them speak to our families usually every year, as internet safety becomes more of a concern each year. I would highly encourage all families to attend if possible, but specifically our 3rd-5th grade families. There are new apps and content that students are becoming aware of and it's good information for you as parents and guardians to know about when allowing your children to access the internet and social media. The zoom link was sent out via Seesaw on Monday morning. The flyer is listed below. We hope to see you there.

It was a great first week back with all students on campus! We know these last 4 weeks will fly by and it will be the last day of school before we know it. We wanted to thank you for your support and flexibility during these interesting times. Here are a few reminders:

-School is dismissed at 12:00,12:10, and 12:20 on Wednesdays.
THANK YOU all for following our parent expectations and standing on the green Xs on the sidewalk and spacing yourself out from other people at drop off and pick up!

-If you are driving to drop off or pick up, please stay with your car and pull forward as much as possible to allow for other cars to come into the parking lot.

-The front of the school on the Cypress is not an area for pick up or drop off as it causes congestion on the street and an unsafe situation with trying to pull back into traffic. We have had cars get hit when trying to do so.

-If you are in the pick up/drop off loop in the parking lot, it is imperative that students enter and exit your car on the PASSENGER side. Having your child enter or exit your car from the DRIVER side is dangerous for your child and our staff as they must walk into the drive through lane to escort your child. Students can slide by car seats to get to the driver side once inside your car. We'd encourage you to park in the neighborhood and come pick up your child at their gate if this is a concern for you.

-At dismissal, we must ask that families leave campus so that we are following social distancing. Students playing on campus or families standing in groups, unless waiting for siblings, is unfortunately not allowed at this time. We really appreciate your understanding with this.

Please feel free to contact the office if you have any questions. Again, THANK YOU for all of your help with us ensuring the safety of your children at school.

We are in need of more lunchtime supervision to help us with our multiple lunches.

-The rate of pay is $14 an hour.

-You must be fingerprinted and TB tested along with being able to get a COVID test at the district office.

-The times would be 10:45-1:15 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

We have 4 rotations for lunch in order to keep students socially distanced while eating. Having more people to monitor students while eating and playing would be a big help to us.

If you can't apply to work as a formal yard duty, we would be happy to have 2-3 volunteers to help at lunch.  We are not allowing volunteers in the classroom, but being outside for the times listed above, is acceptable. If you have a few hours in the afternoon to volunteer at lunchtime, please contact the office and you can speak with myself or Ms. Ajlouni. We really appreciate your help with this. Thank you!
